Murano is 9 minutes from Fondamente Nove by vaporetto and 21 minutes from Piazzale Roma on line 3. A single ticket costs 9.50 EUR, a one-day pass 25.00 EUR, and the Glass Museum charges 15.00 EUR (ACTV, 2026; Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026). Allow half a day for the island, or a full day if you add Burano and Torcello on the same pass.

This page covers the practical side only: which boat to take from where, what the day costs, what the museum charges and when it opens, how long to allow, and how the island-hopping connections actually line up. The history of Venetian glass, the furnace techniques and the island's workshops are covered on separate pages.

Every figure here comes from the ACTV fare page and the line timetables in force in autumn 2026, from the Glass Museum's own ticket and opening pages, and from the Comune di Venezia access fee regulation, all fetched in October 2026. Timetables change two or three times a year on these routes, so check the line PDF linked below before an early start or a late return.

How to get to Murano from Venice

Four ACTV lines reach Murano, and the right one depends on where you start. From Fondamente Nove, on the northern edge of Cannaregio, lines 4.1 and 4.2 take 9 minutes to Murano Colonna, 12 minutes to Murano Faro and 17 to 18 minutes round to Murano Museo. Line 4.1 leaves every 20 minutes, from 06:14 to 23:22 (ACTV, 2026). Line 12 leaves the same landing for Murano Faro in 9 minutes, first boat 04:20 and last 22:25.

From Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia railway station, line 3 is the direct boat. The 06:21 from Piazzale Roma calls at Ferrovia at 06:25, Murano Colonna at 06:42 and Murano Museo at 06:49, so 21 minutes to the first Murano stop and 28 minutes to the museum. Departures run every 20 to 30 minutes, the last one outbound at 18:21, and the last return reaches Piazzale Roma at 19:18 (ACTV, 2026). Lines 4.1 and 4.2 also serve Piazzale Roma, but they circle the city first, so line 3 is the one to wait for.

From San Marco, line 7 crosses the basin to Murano Navagero in 24 minutes. It leaves San Zaccaria at 8 and 38 minutes past the hour, from 10:08 to 16:38, and the last boat back from Murano Colonna reaches San Zaccaria at 17:36 (ACTV, 2026). Outside those hours, travel via Fondamente Nove.

How much does a day on Murano cost?

A standard 75-minute ticket on the Rete Unica network costs 9.50 EUR. It has to be validated at the start of the journey and again at every change of boat (ACTV, 2026). A return to Murano on two singles is therefore 19.00 EUR. The Venezia Daily Pass costs 25.00 EUR for one day, with 35.00 EUR for two days, 45.00 EUR for three and 65.00 EUR for seven. Holders of a Rolling Venice Card, which costs 6.00 EUR, can buy a 72-hour ticket for 27.00 EUR (ACTV, 2026).

The arithmetic is short. Murano out and back is cheaper on two singles. Add Burano and Torcello and you are on four or more boats, which is 38.00 EUR or more in singles against 25.00 EUR for the pass, so the pass wins from the third ride of the day.

Glass Museum admission is 15.00 EUR full (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026). Murano with the museum, on singles, comes to 34.00 EUR a head, and a three-island day with the museum comes to 40.00 EUR on a daily pass, before food.

Venice's access fee adds nothing. Its regulation covers the old city and the minor lagoon islands listed in the second annex, Murano among them, and a single payment would cover both areas. The published rules for the trial state that the fee is applied only to the old city and not to the minor islands, Murano, Burano and Torcello included (Comune di Venezia, 2024).

Murano Glass Museum tickets and opening hours

The Museo del Vetro is at Fondamenta Giustinian 8. Its own directions give the Museo stop on lines 3, 4.1 and 4.2, and Murano Navagero on line 7 (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

Admission is 15.00 EUR full and 7.50 EUR reduced. The reduced rate covers children aged 6 to 14, students aged 15 to 25, visitors over 65, and holders of a Rolling Venice or ISIC card. Children under 6 go free, as do residents of and people born in the Comune di Venezia, disabled visitors with one companion, and tourist guides licensed in Italy. School groups pay 4.00 EUR a head between 1 September and 15 March (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

Two combined tickets include the museum. The Island Museums ticket, at 20.00 EUR full and 10.00 EUR reduced, covers the Glass Museum, the Burano Lace Museum and the Torcello Museum, one admission each, valid three months, so it costs 5.00 EUR more than Glass Museum admission on its own. The Museum Pass, at 50.00 EUR full and 25.00 EUR reduced, covers the civic museums, among them all three island museums and the Doge's Palace, valid six months (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

The museum opens every day, 10:00 to 18:00 from 1 April to 31 October, with last admission at 17:00, and 10:00 to 17:00 from 1 November to 31 March, with last admission at 16:00. Closing operations begin 20 minutes before closing time (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

How long should you spend on Murano?

Two to three hours covers the island at a walking pace with one stop inside. Half a day is the figure to plan around if you want the museum, the showroom strip and lunch.

The museum sets the first limit. Last admission is 17:00 from April to October and 16:00 from November to March, and closing operations start 20 minutes before the doors shut (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026). If the museum is the point of the trip, go in the morning.

The timetable sets the second. Line 7 from San Marco runs outbound only between 10:08 and 16:38, and its last return reaches San Zaccaria at 17:36, so an afternoon start from San Marco leaves very little time on the island. Line 3 to Piazzale Roma stops earlier still, with the last outbound departure at 18:21. Lines 4.1, 4.2 and 12 from Fondamente Nove run much later, line 4.1 until 23:22 outbound and line 12 until 22:25, so an evening on Murano works if you are content to return through Cannaregio (ACTV, 2026).

Distances on the island are short, which is why the time goes on stops rather than walking. The boat covers Murano Colonna to Murano Faro in 3 minutes and Colonna to the Museo stop in 9 minutes, and every landing sits on the same two canals (ACTV, 2026).

Furnace visits, courses and the glass trademark

Furnace demonstrations are sold in many forms on Murano, and the only prices published by a public institution are those of the Scuola del Vetro Abate Zanetti, the glass school run alongside the civic museums. Its two-hour activity pairs a guided visit of the Glass Museum with a furnace demonstration at the school. The adult version costs 150 EUR for a group of up to 25, with museum admission charged separately. The family version, for families with children aged 5 to 14, costs 100 EUR for up to 10 participants, museum admission included, and each family leaves with a small glass goto. Both are paid online in advance and must be booked at least 10 days ahead. The school also lists on-demand courses in furnace work, fusing and casting, and lampworking, with no price published. Its page records a suspension of the museum and furnace activity during part of 2024, so confirm availability when you book (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

Commercial furnaces along the canal run their own demonstrations on their own terms, and no official tariff covers them, so settle the price before you start.

For buying, one check is official. The Vetro Artistico Murano mark exists under Veneto regional law 70 of 1994 and is registered as an EU collective mark, number 000481812. Only companies holding a concession from the Region may put its sticker on a piece, and authorised shops show a window decal carrying the mark and an identification number (Regione del Veneto, 2026).

Murano, Burano and Torcello in one day

Line 12 links the three islands. From Murano Faro it reaches Burano in 30 minutes, calling at Mazzorbo on the way. The 10:00 boat from Fondamente Nove arrives at Faro at 10:09, leaves at 10:11, calls at Mazzorbo at 10:35 and reaches Burano at 10:41. Departures from Fondamente Nove run every 20 minutes through the middle of the day, from 04:20 to 22:25 (ACTV, 2026). Line 12 does not call at Murano Colonna, so from the museum end of the island take line 4.1 or 4.2 the three or four minutes to Faro first.

Burano to Torcello is line 9, a 5-minute crossing. It leaves Burano every 15 minutes from 09:30 to 17:45, and the last return leaves Torcello at 17:55 (ACTV, 2024).

One day that works from Fondamente Nove: the 09:40 line 12 reaches Murano Faro at 09:49, which puts you outside the museum as it opens at 10:00 and leaves two hours for the island. Board line 12 again at Faro at 12:11 and you are in Burano at 12:41 for lunch. Cross to Torcello on the 14:30 line 9 and you land at 14:35. Line 12 back from Burano runs every 20 minutes and reaches Fondamente Nove about 41 minutes later. A Venezia Daily Pass at 25.00 EUR covers every leg (ACTV, 2026).
