A glass-blowing class on Murano costs 150 EUR per person for a one hour murrina session, 190 EUR for two hours of bead-making and 300 EUR for a two hour goto session at the Scuola del Vetro di Murano. A 20 hour furnace course costs 800 EUR per participant in a group of four (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

Watching costs less than making. A two hour guided museum visit with a furnace demonstration costs 150 EUR for a pre-formed group of up to 25 adults, and many of the island's commercial furnaces run a short demonstration at no charge on the way into their showrooms.

Every figure below comes from the official pages of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, which runs the Scuola del Vetro di Murano at Calle Briati 8b, a few minutes from the Murano Faro landing. Prices were checked in October 2026.

How much does a Murano glass-blowing experience cost?

The Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia publishes fixed fees for the on-demand Glass Experiences at the Scuola del Vetro di Murano. Making your own goto, the traditional Venetian drinking glass, takes two hours and costs 300 EUR per participant, with a maximum of two people. A two hour lampworking session making beads costs 190 EUR per participant for up to four people. A one hour glass fusing session making a murrina costs 150 EUR per participant, again for up to four. All three fees cover equipment and materials, access to the furnaces and workshops, and a visit to the Museo del Vetro (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

Groups and families have a cheaper option. In the 45 minute glass tile session, participants sketch a 10 by 10 cm design that is reproduced on clear glass with coloured frits and murrine and then kiln-fired. It costs 300 EUR in total for 5 to 8 participants, 35 EUR per person for 9 to 30 and 30 EUR per person for 31 to 60 (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026). At nine participants that is a fifth of the price of the bead session per head, which is why it is the usual choice for school and coach groups.

A free demonstration, a class or a 20 hour course?

Three different things are sold as glass-blowing on Murano, at three price levels.

The cheapest is watching. Many of the island's commercial furnaces run a short demonstration at no charge and then lead visitors into the attached showroom, so the demonstration opens a sales conversation rather than standing alone as a ticketed event. There is no obligation to buy, and the trademark described below is how to check what you are shown.

In the middle sit the guided demonstrations run by the museum's education service. The two hour activity Storie d'arte, di sabbia, di fuoco combines a guided tour of the Museo del Vetro with a furnace demonstration at the Scuola del Vetro. For adults it costs 150 EUR for a group of 1 to 25 participants, with museum admission charged separately. The family version, for children aged 5 to 14, costs 100 EUR for up to 10 participants with 1 to 4 adults, includes museum admission, and ends with a glass goto for each family (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

At the top are the 20 hour courses, taught Monday to Thursday from 9am to 2pm. The basic furnace course costs 800 EUR per participant in a group of four, 920 EUR for three, 1,090 EUR for two and 1,580 EUR for a single participant. The basic fusing and casting course, also 20 hours, publishes a longer table running down to 610 EUR per participant for a group of seven (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

Where the furnaces are and how to reach them

The Scuola del Vetro di Murano, where the museum service runs its classes and courses, is at Calle Briati 8b, 30141 Murano (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026). The nearest landing is Murano Faro. The commercial furnaces that run free demonstrations are spread along the Fondamenta dei Vetrai and around Colonna, which is the first Murano stop coming from the city.

Waterbus line 4.1 reaches Murano Faro in 12 minutes from Fondamente Nove, with departures every 20 minutes under the timetable in force from 1 September 2026 (ACTV, 2026). A single waterbus ticket costs 9.50 EUR and is valid for 75 minutes from first validation, which covers the outward crossing with time to spare, though the return needs a second ticket. Once you make two or more crossings in a day the 24 hour Venezia Daily Pass at 25 EUR is the cheaper choice; the 48, 72 and 168 hour cards cost 35, 45 and 65 EUR (ACTV, 2026). The vaporetto page covers the routes and the validation rules in full, and the Murano island guide covers a whole day on the island.

What a session involves and when you collect the piece

A Glass Experience opens with a short historical introduction and a briefing on safety and the tools, then moves to the bench or the torch. The goto session involves furnace management, so participants work at the furnace itself. The bead session is lampworking at a torch, covering torch and tool handling before moving on to simple or decorated beads. The murrina session is glass fusing, with a design phase before the making. No previous experience is required, and the sessions are taught in Italian and English (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

Collection times differ because hot glass has to be annealed. Beads and murrine can be collected the same day. A goto has to cool more slowly and is collected the following day, which matters if you are in Venice for one night. Glass tiles are kiln-fired, and pick-up or shipping is arranged after 48 hours.

Every fee includes a visit to the Museo del Vetro, and on the 20 hour courses that visit comes at the end of the course. A standalone museum ticket costs 15 EUR full or 7.50 EUR reduced, and the museum is open daily from 10am to 6pm between 1 April and 31 October, with last admission at 5pm, and from 10am to 5pm between 1 November and 31 March, with last admission at 4pm (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

The Vetro Artistico Murano trademark and buying a piece afterwards

Most visitors leave a demonstration thinking about buying something, and the question that decides the purchase is whether the piece was made on the island. Veneto regional law no. 70 of 1994 created the collective mark Vetro Artistico Murano, registered with the EU Intellectual Property Office in Alicante under no. 000481812. It covers glass made on Murano in the Murano tradition, including first-processed, engraved, decorated and cut glass, mirrors, lighting, beads, conterie, murrine and lume work (Regione del Veneto, 2026).

Only concessionaire companies authorised by the Veneto Region after verification may apply the mark's sticker, the bollino, to their own products. The region's published list of concession holders names 38 companies, each with an identifying code, and was last updated on 19 March 2025 (Regione del Veneto, 2026). Retail shops are handled separately: the Consorzio Promovetro authorises private shops that apply and accept its rules, and those shops display a window decal, the vetrofania, carrying the logo and an assigned identification number (Regione del Veneto, 2026).

That gives a buyer two checks. On the object, look for the bollino. On the shop, look for the vetrofania and its number. A piece you make yourself in a class carries neither, because the mark applies to a concessionaire's own production.

Booking, group sizes and children

All of the on-demand sessions are sold to pre-formed groups, so a party cannot be assembled from individual walk-ins on the day. Bookings go through Ticketlandia, by selecting the on-demand workshops and then the session; the academy answers questions at muveacademy@fmcvenezia.it and on 041 2405211 (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

Age limits are the first thing to check. The Glass Experiences are designed for participants aged 18 and over, with one exception: the glass tile session is suitable for families with children aged 6 and up. Under-18s are otherwise directed to the education service, whose family furnace demonstration takes children aged 5 to 14 (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

The education activities are booked on their own pages and paid in advance by online booking, bank transfer or credit card, and bookings should be made at least 10 days ahead. Last-minute requests go to education@fmcvenezia.it, are paid by credit card only, and a weekend request has to arrive by noon on the preceding Friday (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

The 20 hour courses run on dates agreed with the school, subject to availability, and a course is activated once the minimum number of participants is reached. Registrations are taken in the order they arrive.
